- After processing, you will receive by e-mail the decision about your request.
The scholarship is awarded annually in the winter term. The possible amount of the scholarship is Euro 750,- to Euro 1.500,-.

Supportive scholarship grants serve to promote scientific or artistic work, the creation of which goes well beyond the average effort required by students of regular studies and are advertised twice a year at the beginning of the semester.
Can I apply for the supportiv scholarship as a German citizen?
Yes, the scholarship is available to every citizen of the European Economic Area as well as all foreigners with the same status (who have been staying in Austria continuously for more than 4 years and are registered).
What is the maximum amount of time I can have studied to qualify for a scholarship?
The specified study period may not be exceeded, including one tolerance semester. In a few cases, for example for health reasons, exceptions can rarely be made.
Where can I find the confirmation of my thesis on TISS?
On the TISS website you will find a tab called "Theses". Click on it and select "My Theses". Take a screenshot of this page.
We are two people and are submitting a joint application for scholarship. Do both applicants have to be entered on the form?
Only one applicant may be specified per form as funding will be transferred to that person's account. In a joint project, one person takes on the role of applicant, but indicates in the project description that it is a joint work.
Can all participants in a joint work apply for a scholarship?
Only one application may be submitted for a joint project.
When will the scholarship be paid out?
The scholarship will be paid out at the beginning of July for the summer semester and at the end of October for the winter semester. Please note that payment dates may be postponed, as we receive the funds from the Ministry of Education and are dependent on their disbursement.
If I go on a research trip with another person who also receives a grant, can certain expenses (e.g. hotel costs) be shared?
Only expenses made out to the name of the person submitting the claim can be submitted. It is not possible to use the same invoice for both claims.
Can I use the scholarship for something other than what was stated in the funding application?
If you receive an alternative to the transportation, accommodation, or material costs listed in the application, or if one of the options listed is no longer available, you may also use the funds for other purposes. However, a written request to the dean's office is required in advance.
Will the printing costs of my thesis or other written work be covered?
The costs for printing and plotters are not covered by the grant. This applies to all printing work.
Will my food costs be covered by the scholarship?
The scholarship is not intended to cover food costs. All food costs must be borne by the student themselves.
Can I use my scholarship to finance fuel costs?
Funding for fuel costs is only permitted if the application states that the student will be traveling independently with a car or rental car. In this case, all fuel receipts must be retained.
Can I hire people to build my model or to do work related to my thesis?
The grant may not be used to hire staff. This includes invoices for minor projects.
Can I use the scholarship to buy gifts (e.g., gifts as a thank you for an interview)?
The scholarship may not be used to purchase gifts, including representative gifts.
Can I use the scholarship to pay for courses or training that are necessary to complete my work?
The financing of courses and training courses is only permitted if they are not offered at TU Wien.
Can I buy books with the scholarship?
There is no provision for purchasing books; books can be ordered through the TU Wien library.
Can I use the scholarship to purchase 3D printers, laptops, or other larger devices?
The scholarship is not intended to purchase equipment. Where possible, such equipment should be borrowed or existing equipment from the university should be used.
Scholarships for short-term scientific work and subject-specific courses abroad
- for diploma theses, dissertations or subject-specific courses abroad
- Duration of funding: max. 3 months
- Scholarships: approx. € 660, - per month (diploma thesis), approx. € 760, - per month (dissertations)

Funding for conference participation by doctoral students
We would like to inform you about the scholarship "Support for conference participation of doctoral candidates", which is financed from the global budget of the TU Wien and managed by the International Office. The new action is aimed at doctoral students of the Vienna University of Technology ("Early Stage Researchers"), who make an own contribution in the form of a poster or a paper during international scientific conferences.
The funding includes:
- Country-specific travel allowance
- overnight lump sum
- conference fee
Students can now submit their application through TISS Mobility Services. There are four submission deadlines per year: 15.1., 15.3., 15.6. and 15.10..
A preselection of the candidates is made by a faculty representative, the final selection is made by the Rectorate.
