Registration for Courses and Design Studios
Registration for Courses and Design Studios
It is recommended to arrive to Vienna at least 2 weeks before the start of the semester to have enough time to enrol at TU Wien, organize your courses and register for them. Access to the “Application Pool” is only possible after you enrol at TU Wien, so after your arrival in Vienna!
Please attend the Welcome Event! If you arrive a few days before semester start or on the first day, the online registration period is over. Welcome Event is your chance to gain information about remaining spots in any design studio (“Restplätze”) = BUT you have to be flexible about your course selection.
Please organize yourself early!
Preparation Tips
- Select your favorite courses before arriving in Vienna.
- For course-related questions, contact the responsible lecturer.
- If you need help with course selection, contact your academic adviser (see your acceptance letter).
- For technical or administrative questions regarding registration, contat the Jira Serviceportal (link below).
What you need to know about application pools
Application pools open at mid of September (for the winter semester) and mid of February (for the summer semester) and can be accessed via your TISS account. Deadlines and other important dates are always posted on the homepage of Faculty for Architecture and Planning in advance. So please check and stay updated!
A few days before the pools open you will receive an email from the Dean’s Office with links to the designated application pools and further important information
- The same links are also available on the Faculty of Architecture and Planning homepage.
- On the homepage, you will find short video presentations of the courses to help you choose: https://colab.tuwien.ac.at/display/PA/Poolbewerbung+Architektur
- Have a look at the Course Catalogue: http://tiss.tuwien.ac.at (“Education”) to gain an overview about the offered courses.
Application pools are required for the following courses:
A) Bachelor Entwerfen = Bachelor Design Studios, with 15 ECTS
B) Wahlseminar = Elective Seminar, written seminar work, 5 ECTS
We recommend attending design projects for max. 15-20 ECTS / semester - the workload is very high!
IMPORTANT: in the Application Pool you can choose 3 studios according to your preference – you will be placed in one of them. If you need to attend more than one design studio, please contact the Jira Serviceportal.
Make sure to choose courses according to your enrolment (Bachelor or Master)!
!! There are other types of courses that are not part of the application pools (see Academic Programmes in TISS) that you can register regardless of your academic programme such as transferable skills or excursions. Please look them up in the course catalogue in TISS: https://tiss.tuwien.ac.at/curriculum/studyCodes.xhtml?dswid=5875&dsrid=16
How to register for lectures and courses in TISS
Usually, you register for each course separately (see application period in TISS course description). For “Vorlesung/Lecture (VO)” NO registration is needed - only for the exam at the end! To have an overview of your course registrations, make sure to add them to your „favorites“in TISS.
Besides a growing number of bachelor’s and master’s courses in Architecture and Spatial Planning that are taught in English, as well as the Building Science and Technology master’s programme, which will be entirely in English, the Faculty for Architecture and Spatial Planning courses require a good knowledge of German.
(Note: only certain courses of the Building Science study course are open to exchange students. A list can be obtained in the International Office on request).
Course Catalogue / Registration
All lectures offered in term time are listed in the lecture-information system TISS (menu item Education). Here you will find all the individual course information on the supervisor, ECTS points, compulsory and optional subjects, including application and examination times.
Usually, you register for each course separately (see application period in TISS course description). For Vorlesung/Lecture (VO) NO registration is needed – only for the end-of term exam.
In the Application Pool you can choose three studios according to your preference – you will be placed in one of them.
Please enter ERASMUS in the commentary field to guarantee your place in the favourite studio.
We recommend attending design projects for max. 15-20 ECTS / term – the workload is very high.
It is recommended that the students of the architecture course arrive ca. two weeks before the beginning of the term in Vienna so that they can register in time or can take part in the applications for designing, optional seminars and master modules.
If you miss the application, make sure you take part in the Erasmus Welcome Event at the beginning of the term!
German Language Courses
It is urgently recommended to book additional (language) courses alongside your main courses in order to perfect your knowledge of German. Information on the preparatory intensive language courses and courses for technical German can be obtained from the homepage of the International Office.
