Kerstin Thompson, Founder, Kerstin Thompson Architects (KTA)
Founded in Melbourne Australia in 1994, KTA's diverse portfolio spans housing, education and cultural sectors, with a focus on architecture as a civic endeavour emphasising user experience and enjoyment of place.
Kerstin's design excellence and contribution to the profession and tertiary education has been recognised through architectural awards at state, national and international levels. In 2022 she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM); in 2023 awarded the Gold Medal, the Australian Institute of Architects' highest honour; and in 2025 made an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
A committed educator, she is an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University and Monash University, where she leads research through design studios and the Australian Housing Atlas initiative with Monash Urban Lab.
Key projects include Bundanon Art Museum & Bridge (RIBA International Award 2024), Melbourne Holocaust Museum, Broadmeadows Town Hall and Balfe Park Lane housing.
