Recognition of courses and change of studies

Recognition of university exams

Vice-Study-Dean Senior Lecturer Dipl.-Ing. Sigrun Swoboda is responsible for the recognition of existing university exams.

  1. Please talk to the Vice-Study-Dean about possible equivalent recognition of existing university certificates.
  2. Fill out the following form: Antrag auf Anerkennung von Prüfungen
  3. The Vice-Study-Dean confirms the requests by signing them and forward them to the Admission Office.
  4. After approximately 4 weeks of processing, you will receive an e-mail indicating that the official notification (recognition) is ready for collection.

You find more information about the course structure at TISS.

Free elective subjects

Free electives do not have to be recognized by the Dean of Studies if they were completed during the valid admission to the degree program. It is therefore not usually necessary to have them recognized. The certificates of the relevant courses must be enclosed when submitting the Bachelor's or Master's degree to the Dean's Office.

Compulsory and optional subjects

For the recognition of compulsory and elective courses in the Bachelor's and Master's programs, the  Application for Recognition of Examinations form must be completed. The equivalence of the courses must always be determined by the relevant course instructors. This form must be submitted to the Studies and Examinations Office. Recognition is finally granted by the Dean of Studies with a notification.

Proof of practice

If you have completed an internship (relevant to your profession) and would like it to count towards free electives (max. 6 ECTS), please contact the Vice Dean of Studies, Mr. Kurt Weninger, at kurt.weninger@tuwien.ac.at. Proof of the extent (total hours) and type of activity (proof of professional relevance) is required.  If your application is approved, you will be issued with a corresponding certificate.

ERASMUS

For the recognition of academic success during an ERASMUS stay, the recognition form must be completed and confirmed by the Dean of Studies.

Transfer from other fields of study or universities (home/abroad)

If you intend to transfer from an Austrian or foreign university to study architecture, you must first register at the Admissions Office. There you hand in the required documents and your data will be recorded. You will keep your matriculation number if you were already enrolled at an Austrian university.

If you have any questions, please contact the Admission Office
