Transportation System Planning
The Centre of Transportation System Planning (IVS) joins forces with seven other study courses to form the Department of Spatial Planning at the TU Wien. Within the Department, the IVS works on transportation and mobility in the context of spatial development, also in interrelation with social, technological and economic aspects. Our basic conception integrates demand- and option-oriented perspectives.
The priority in studies and research is on the sustainable organisation of mobility and transportation. This requires the development of suitable measures, methods, instruments and processes.
Focus of activities in research is on social and technical innovations in the field of mobility and transportation with the following current key emphases:
- The interrelations between space and mobility on different spatial levels, ranging from road space to the urban-regional environment.
- Urban mobility laboratories as experimental environments, in which innovations in mobility and transportation is researched, tested and implemented in multi-disciplinary mode.
- Freight mobility and (city) logistics
- Integrated strategies and measures for a future mobility and transportation system with the focus on users and their behaviour.
In doing this, the IVS can rely on a wide-ranging methodological expertise, which ranges from quantitative and qualitative methods of sociological research to transportation modelling, and also includes evaluation methods, which are applied in complex research plans.
